The most useful part of a multi-model workflow is not that two systems can both generate prose. It is that you can assign authority, constrain it, and inspect what changes.

The obvious next experiment was to reverse the authority structure. Claude drafts first. Codex is assigned final arbiter authority. The question is simple: do the gains come from Claude specifically, or from governance itself?
The honest answer, based on the March 11, 2026 artifacts: governance appears to be the load-bearing variable, not model identity. But the evidence is still narrow — one completed reversal, one baseline — so the claim stays modest.

A fair counterargument
A fair critic should object here.
Maybe /blog/034 was strong not because Claude had final say, but because the process had already improved after 033. Maybe the important variable is not arbiter identity at all, but sequence: who drafts first, who evaluates second, and when the rubric is applied.
That is a strong counterargument because it identifies a real flaw. This is still an n=1 reversal attempt, run after earlier iterations improved the method. Sequence effects and learning effects are both plausible confounders.
So the responsible claim is not "Codex final-say is better." It is: when authority is reassigned but guardrails stay fixed, the process still surfaces uncertainty and resists unjustified closure.
Practical use
For founders and operators, the practical lesson is straightforward:
Define the arbiter's optimization function explicitly. Decide whether the final role is optimizing for publish readiness, claim discipline, reader calibration, or something else.
